The Wright Brothers first flew at Kitty Hawk, Ford Motor Company was formed.... and the new Science Building as it was then called on the campus of Michigan State Normal School (MSNS) first opened its doors in 1903.  Named after former Natural Science Department head, William H. Sherzer, who first proposed the structure based on the design of a German science building he had seen, Sherzer Hall's centennial year was celebrated during a homecoming weekend filled with alumni events, football, and rememberances of 100 years of activities in the venerable building.  First set in motion by EMU student and graduate assistant, Tom Kasper, the event brought University Vice-President for Student Affairs, Jim Vick, and College of Arts and Sciences Dean, Linda Pritchard, to join those gathered during a morning presentation outside Sherzer Hall.  Dedicated alumnus, Mr. Ralph Pasola, donated a lovely, framed photomozaic tribute to the University which was unveiled for permanent display in the building.  A tour of the observatory directed by members of the EMU Astronomy Club followed the ceremony with plenty of food and refreshments provided by the Dean's Office (coordinated by Development Officer, Jill Hunsberger).  It is amazing to think of all the changes in the world since this distinctive campus landmark first opened.  Only time will tell what changes we will see during the next 100 years!
