Norbert atop the Mackinac Bridge north tower...

Thanks to the efforts of great friend, former EMU astronomy student, and St Ignace-based nature photographer, Dave Black, I was lucky to tag along on one of Dave's many adventures... an escorted visit to the north tower (St. Ignace side) of the Mackinac Bridge during a summer visit in 2005! Dave has a studio/store, Mackinac Straights Photography, in downtown St. Ignace where many of his images can be seen and purchased including those taken from atop the bridge. If you've been there you may have stopped at the storefront to marvel at his images in the window while munching on fudge or ice cream. Some include spactacular nightime, Labor Day bridge walk, and lightening photos of the bridge from various locations- his home's front window looks out at the bridge. It was surprisingly calm and warm atop the 552 foot tower this day, and the view... well, what can you say standing atop such a landmark structure? Michigan has every right to be proud of its bridge. The men who built it were giants, or crazy, or both! The most notable sound was the constant drone of cars and trucks crossing over the metal grating of the bridge span below. Here are some views taken during this once-in-a-lifetime visit....
