A man obsessed with sound has a theory that there are manys sounds in the world that humans are unable to hear due to their frequencies.  He claims that he has invented a machine that will allow people to hear these sounds.  He does a couple experiements where he hears trees and fowers screaming when they get cut down.  He finally convinced the doctor to come and listen to the sounds through the machine.  Just as he is about to swing at the tree trunk with an axe, a large branch falls between the two men and destroys the machine.  The doctor claims never to have heard anything but the man convinces him to dress the wounds on the tree with iodine.
