This humorous story is a variation of the Little Red Hen mixed with a cooking lesson.  In this story, Big Brown Rooster decides that he is sick of eating chicken feed and he is going to make a strawberry shortcake with the help of his friends.  The only problem is that none of them know how to cook.  They follow the directions a bit to literally, but with Rooster's help they learn how to measure flour and beat an egg.  The book is also filled with sidebars that contain baking terms and techniques and the complete recipe for the shortcake is included at the end of the story.
