Fish Lake Trip
October 15-17, 1999

Despite forboding weather forecasts earlier in the week, the Fall '99 trip turned out to be one of the nicer ones.  Friday night's skies were transparent through sunrise, though "seeing" was unfortunately poor.  Many a galaxy was visible but Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune were muddied by the unsteady air.  Any deficit was more than made up for by the unusually mild tempertures during the night - all most of the 52 in attendance needed was a modest jacket - not bad for mid-October.  Saturday morning allowed for nice views of the sun with the Hydrogen alpha filter on a C8.  The sun was sporting a major sunspot complex N-S across the center of the solar disk.  The F and G-engine rockets were sucessfully launched and retrieved before an advancing cold front poured rain early Saturday evening.  The skies did manage to clear yet again after midnight for a few more hours of observing, this time with better seeing.  Sunday AM was lovely once again... just right for yet one more stroll through the woods before venturing home.

A peaceful Saturday morning breakfast makes for a good start of the day's actvities

"Bucky's house" on Fish Lake

Fall colors once again did not disappoint

Like much of the Great Lakes basin, water levels were way down
in the bogs, ponds, and Fish Lake - still beautiful though!!

Ooops!  That was quick!  Bye-bye rocket...

Who brought the marshmellows?
