Department Office

The Department usually has one or two student assistants in the main office to help answer telephone calls, deliver mail, make copies, and perform other tasks..

Undergraduate Teaching Assistants

The Department welcomes experienced, responsible undergraduate students to serve as teaching assistants for laboratory sections in courses like PHY 100 Physics for Elementary Teachers, PHY 101 Physical Science in the Arts, and occasionally for PHY 221 through PHY 224 (introductory physics) as well as certain upper level courses.

Graduate Teaching Assistants

The Department welcomes experienced, responsible graduate students to serve as teaching assistants for laboratory sections in PHY 221 through PHY 224 (introductory physics).

Research Assistants

Assistantships are sometimes available to do research in one of the Department laboratories. Ask the faculty laboratory director whose work most interests you if there are any assistantships available.

 

 

OUTSIDE THE DEPARTMENT:

NSF Summer Research

The National Science Foundation (NSF) sponsors several many universities and colleges around the nation to provide Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU). Please check the NSF REU web site to learn about the amazing array of research opportunities. Be sure to think ahead and apply during late January and early February, typically after you have taken a full year of introductory physics. Also, be sure to attend the Lunch Time Physics event in January which covers REU and other research opportunities of particular interest.
