| The
manufacture of thin plastic films of extremely high optical quality is
necessary for use in a variety of products ranging from photographic film
to flat screen displays. In this presentation, I will discuss one
optical defect that was encountered and how we determined its cause.
Along the way, I will make a slight detour in order to explore an interesting
connection between this defect and rainbows, providing a deeper understanding
of the physics of rainbows.
