Description

During
the past decade, collaboration between private companies, universities,
and government agencies have yielded advances in all areas of solar cell
development. Recent advances include significant improvements in
the efficiencies of crystalline silicon, polycrystalline, and various thin-film
solar cells. In addition to these advances, new manufacturing techniques
show great promise in reducing the cost of solar modules. As a result,
it is projected that environmentally friendly solar energy may be a cost-effective
alternative to fossil fuel-generated electricity.
