The Manhattan
Project
|
|
Description
|
The
first atomic bomb was developed in a highly secret and complex project
known as the Manhattan Project. Physicists accustomed to working
independently on fundamental scientific questions and sharing their results
openly found themselves working in a large group on an engineering project
in a very secretive environment. This talk will present an overview
of the Manhattan Project and discuss its impact on the physics community.
Where possible, the perspective will be based on autobiographical material
from physicists who were associated with the project.
