Light Pipes: A Cost Saver?
Description
Light pipes are structures that allow sunlight to illuminate interior spaces. They consist of a collector, a tube, and an emitter that is usually fitted with a diffuser to improve the quality of emitted light. Light pipes can significantly reduce the amount of electrical energy used for lighting, thereby reducing energy costs. An estimate of the energy cost savings that can be realized by installing light pipes in the Department of Physics and Astronomy will be discussed.
