Video analysis is a powerful tool for physicists and engineers. This tool has been used to determine wind speeds in the atmosphere of Saturn and also to interpret the landing of the Huygens probe on Titan, a moon of Saturn. Video analysis is used in athletics to evaluate performance, in automotive engineering to analysze crash tests, and in transportation safety to understand structural failures such as the recent bridge collapse in Minnesota. Students at EMU are using video analysis to study motion. Dr. Carroll will demonstrate the basics of video analysis during this event.
