Learning to Estimate: Fermi Questions
Description
One useful skill to have is the ability to make numerical estimates. Why is this useful? To quickly get a feel for important factors, and to perform "sanity checks" on more complex calculations. Estimating involves dealing with uncertainty, gathering information, and assessing how accurate that information needs to be. Estimation exercises are sometimes called "Fermi Questions"; we'll try a few! Bring a pencil, a calculator, and some scrap paper.
