Paleobiology
and Physics: Constraining the Evolution of Dasyclads
|
|
Description
|
| Dasycladalean
algae, also known as dasyclads, rank among the largest single-cell organisms.
In addition, these marine algae have been around for millions of years
and have a rich fossil record. A computer model that calculates the
number of dasyclad offspring -- while taking into account findings from
the fossil record, geometric structure, physical constraints, and reproductive
factors -- provides insight to the possible ways that dasyclads evolved.
Please join us as Dr. LoDuca describes how dasycladalean evolution is constrained
by paleobiology and physics! |
