Remember
the thrill of learning something new when you played with a toy as a kid?
Today children have a wider selection of toys to choose from and many are
highly technical. This past summer LEGOTM brought out
a new line of racers. They have awesome names like Shredd, Surfer,
Loopin, and Lightor. Each racer has a profile, drawn on a grid, that
indicates useful things like its power and acceleration relative to the
other models. These toys may be the first place a child encounters
a word like acceleration. Playing with these racers seems like a
good way for them to start learning about acceleration and power, but É
is the information given for each vehicle correct? Does each different
model actually have a unique acceleration? Come, make some measurements,
and find out if there is truth in advertising.
